Fall 2026

Our Fall 2026 edition features new cultural and civic landmarks in Belgium, Toronto and Los Angeles. Plus, we explore the greening of Paris and the social ethos behind the game-changing residential work of Winnipeg firm 5468796.

The word “Elements” is displayed in large white text over five vertical colored stripes with blurred backgrounds.

The Copenhagen Architecture Biennial is seeking proposals for two new pavilions responding to “Elements,” the theme of its 2027 edition, which explores architecture’s connections to the ground, air and materials that surround us.

The first commission calls for a new pavilion that will be installed at Bertel Thorvaldsen’s Plads in central Copenhagen during the Biennial before moving to a permanent home in Husum Nord. Designed to function in both locations, the pavilion must be modular and demountable and constructed using recycled, regenerative and reusable materials, with an emphasis on circular building practices.

A second commission invites proposals to transform and modernize the existing Mobile Theatre wagon in Freetown Christiania. The new Mobile Theatre Pavilion will serve as a mobile cultural stage for activities including concerts, speeches and theatre happenings. Proposals should draw on the construction and history of the existing wagon while incorporating recyclable, regenerative and reusable materials.

Eligibility

Architects, designers and students in urban, landscape and building architecture may apply, either individually or as part of interdisciplinary teams that can include engineers, artists, scenographers and researchers. At least one member of each submitted proposal must be based in Denmark.

Awards

Each selected project will receive a DKK 60,000 prize. The Copenhagen Architecture Biennial can also provide up to DKK 280,000 toward production costs for the Husum Nord pavilion and up to DKK 200,000 for the Mobile Theatre Pavilion.
