Shenzhen Pingshan Sports Park

International Tender for Architectural Design of Shenzhen Pingshan Sports Park aims to build a sports park featuring “badminton” as the theme, and to construct a National Badminton Training Center integrating practice, scientific research and training.

Pingshan district in Shenzhen acts as an important node for the eastward development of Shenzhen. However, the eastern part of Shenzhen lacks large-scale cultural and sports complexes and supporting service facilities. The project: Shenzhen Pingshan Sports Park aims to address the shortcoming of uneven distribution of large-scale cultural and sports facilities in Shenzhen, as well as reaching higher level of national fitness and meeting the recreational fitness needs of the public.

Design Principles:

Economic Practicality

  • The design should strictly follow economical and practical design principles, adopt appropriate architectural structural forms and materials, and balance beauty and practicality; from the user’s perspective, fully consider the physical and mental health and training needs of professional athletes, and create a pleasant-sized and humane building.

Professionalism in Arena Design

  • The venue design needs to consider the needs of top international events in various sports such as badminton, and provide a professional competition environment and hardware facilities. Venues need to meet the needs of hosting various large-scale activities such as events, conferences, exhibitions, and performances, and provide audiences with an excellent audio-visual experience. At the same time, venues need to provide convenient viewing services, create an active business atmosphere, enhance commercial value, and promote the integrated development of culture, sports and tourism.

Urban Publicness

  • Pay attention to the coordinated relationship with surrounding elements such as urban blocks, existing buildings, and natural landscapes, create a good atmosphere for national sports, and build high-quality urban public spaces. Venues should respond to the demands of surrounding communities for sports and cultural activities, create a community-shared national fitness service platform to meet the needs of different age and interest groups, and create a diverse, pleasant, and open community sharing environment.

Ecology and Sustainability

  • Design should adhere to the principles of green ecology and sustainable development, and use eco-friendly materials and energy-saving technologies such as PEDF technology according to local conditions. The project should meet the national 3-star green building standards, reduce operational and maintenance costs, and achieve low energy consumption in operation and sustainable development.
