The Enel WinDesign Challenge is looking for new ideas to integrate functionality, aesthetics and sustainability into wind turbines. This is a global challenge to give sustainable energy a new look, through solutions that combine technological advancement and design.

Brief

The wind energy market has experienced notable growth in the last few decades. Thousands of wind turbines installed globally each year, helping the world with safe, reliable and sustainable energy.

Enel intends to rethink the aesthetics of wind power plants through innovative design solutions combining functionality, innovation and sustainability to enhance harmony between infrastructure and landscape while reducing environmental impact. This Challenge aligns with Enel’s strategic objectives of fostering innovation, sustainability and social responsibility. 

Proposal Requirements

Proposed solutions for the Enel WinDesign Challenge must meet the criteria of increasing environmental integration, technical and functional feasibility, flexibility of use and economic sustainability. Proposals must meet the following requirements as general principles:

  • Increase environmental and landscape integration: low visual and/or acoustic impact
  • Technical and functional feasibility: the solution must ensure the market standard performance of power generation
  • Flexibility of use: adaptable to any turbine supplier
  • Economic sustainability: simplicity of construction that does not compromise investment or operation and maintenance

Prizes

  • A Preliminary Prize of €5,000 will be awarded to each Participant admitted to Phase 2.
  • General Awards:
    • First Prize: €250,000 
    • Second Prize: €150,000 
    • Third Prize: €50,000
  • Special Awards:
    • Design: €15,000
    • Technical & Economical Feasibility: €15,000
    • Innovation & Sustainability: €15,000
