Living Places - Simon Architecture Prize

The 5th Edition of Living Space – Simon Architecture Prize 2024 is now open for entries!

The Living Places – Simon Architecture Prize is an initiative of the firm Simon curated by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe since the prize’s inception in 2016, in commemoration of Simon’s centenary. Since then, architecture studios from more than 23 countries, including Mexico, Poland, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Portugal and Spain, have participated in the competition, reaffirming its international importance. In the previous edition, the prize saw 220 nominated projects.

The purpose of this award is to recognize architectural projects (including interiors, public spaces and landscaping) whose excellence enhances the ability of spaces to provide comfort to those who dwell within them. These designs improve people’s quality of life on a daily basis: while working, learning, sharing, enjoying… It’s architecture to be lived!

This year’s jury features: PhD Architect, writer and curator Andrés Jaque, chairman; filmmaker and screenwriter Amanda Sans; Berlin-based architect and professor Verena Von Beckerath; Afro-Brazilian architect and urban planner Gabriela de Matos; and industrial designer Salvi Plaja, Global Chief Design Officer at Simon and president of FAD (Fostering Arts and Design).

About the Award:

  • The prize is divided into two categories: Collective Places and Personal Places. These categories reflect the award’s interest in understanding the experiences of inhabitants and how architecture challenges spaces, their design and resolution. –
  • Video, considered as the tool for bringing architecture closer to the general public and as the most suitable medium for conveying the atmosphere of the place, is the medium through which the proposals will be presented.
  • Participation is free!
