AZURE Museum of Emotions Architecture Competition 2025 Thumbnail

As part of a series of annual architecture competitions, the Museum of Emotions Architecture Competition tasks participants with using architecture as a tool to bring out different emotions. The purpose of the competition’s 6th edition is to use architecture as the primary tool to create emotional states. Consideration of the scales of spaces, the journey through them, colour, lighting and material choice help accomplish these goals.

Brief

It may not be one’s first instinct when entering a building to consider how it makes them feel. However, architecture has always had a significant impact on emotions. Designers create spaces that make their inhabitants feel different things; offices can create energy and productivity, art galleries can foster deep thoughtfulness and curiosity, and museums can enable calm and intrigue. Each of these spaces is completely distinct, becoming an environment that is far more than just a physical space.

For the Museum of Emotions competition, Buildner has carefully selected a jury panel of architects and industry professionals. Their goal is to assess and reward projects that test demonstrate the highest degree of creativity and innovative architectural design.

Project Guidelines

  • The Museum of Emotions Architecture Competition asks participants to design a museum including two separate exhibition halls evoking contrasting emotions – one inducing negative emotions, and the other inducing positive emotions. Architects are free to choose the specific emotions they incite with their designs – fear, anger, anxiety, love, happiness, laughter etc.
  • As this is an ideas competition, participants are also free to choose any site location, real or imaginary, as well as the size of their structure.
  • Museum of Emotions / Edition #6 is one of Buildner’s silent competitions, in which participants must communicate their ideas without the use of any text. Architects must communicate design concept and thinking solely through the use of visuals.
  • Development of design proposals may be accomplished individually or by teams up to a maximum of 4 people.

Participants of the Museum Emotions Architecture Competition 2025 must submit:

  • One (1) A2 landscape-oriented presentation board with sketches, renderings, plans, sections, elevations, diagrams and/or other presentation tools to explain their proposal
  • A cover image and project description for media publication purposes
