Re-imagining Cumbernauld

The Glasgow Institute of Architects have launched an ideas competition encouraging the re-use of the existing Cumbernauld megastructure, and opposing the demolition approach proposed by the local authority.

This competition hopes to provide alternatives to demolition and identify ideas for uses that will distinguish Cumbernauld Town Centre from others; making a successful special place; continuing its founding ambition as a visionary place to live and exploring what that is in the 21st Century; considering the retention of parts or all of the existing town centre and saving embodied carbon; providing a centre for the community.

Submission Requirements:

  • Up to 500 words explanation of concept on portrait format A4
  • All entries to be digital, maximum file size 5MB
