December 16 2021, Super Typhoon Rai, locally known as Typhoon Odette, made landfall in the Philippines. It’s been over a year since super Typhoon Rai wiped out most of the island and unfortunately rehabilitation has been painfully slow. Help from the Government and international organizations is not coming as fast as they need it and it is thanks to local organizations such as Lokal Lab that they are mobilizing different groups and gathering donations immediately.

The first project will focus on the reconstruction of a new Burgo’s community center, known to them as Lokal Tabo. Their old one was completely destroyed by the typhoon and they are moving to a new location. The Lokal Tabo is a local community market that serves as a platform for local artisans, creators and producers to display and sell their goods without any fees and for the local community to easily access locally and naturally grown produce and plastic-free alternatives. It also works as a restaurant that serves traditional food and as a community/multipurpose space where Lokal Lab organizes seminars, classes, meetings and other events.

The second project will look for the regeneration of towns through small urban-rural design interventions. They want to rebuild towns using urban furniture, waiting sheds that can become temporary shelters, multipurpose structures, clean and safe public bathrooms, etc. You can propose any intervention you think can improve their daily life or can become a key infrastructure in a natural disaster event.
