The Rising From Ashes competition challenges designers to envision a new place of worship for 400 people in Altadena. The project may be organized as a compact volume, a constellation of separate pavilions or a combination of both. Designers are also invited to explore the expressive potential of materials, considering how their textures, colours and sensory qualities could shape the atmosphere of a contemporary sacred space.
This contest also offers a chance to address the urgent issues of climate change. Participants are invited to focus with the utmost attention on the theme of environmental resilience, taking into serious consideration within their project the risks of future extreme weather events.
