Taking place in 2022, Copenhagen Architecture Festival is primarily scandinavia’s largest annual architecture festival, which since its establishment in 2014 through lectures, exhibitions, field trips, debates, an extensive film programme, etc., every year focuses on the places where the transformations of architecture are crossed with life.
Copenhagen Architecture Festival 2022 wants to explore and discuss how we sense, experience and understand places, and how architecture and urban planning help to create them. The festival will explore how architecture and urban planning help create places. We will explore how we can build and plan with a sense of place and its inherent qualities; its narratives, challenges and potentials; and how we can do so with an eye to the different realities and needs of the individual, whether we are talking about humans or other species we share the planet with.
Through these questions, we aim to build the foundations for a broader understanding of the spatial, social, cultural, political and climatic contexts that shape the experience of cities and architecture through collaborations across disciplines, actors, institutions and organizations, and with citizens, decision-makers and professionals.
In addition, during Copenhagen Architecture Festival 2022, the Danish Architects’ Association has chosen to use the same theme in its activities with cultural institutions and municipalities throughout Denmark, so that we can jointly explore the phenomenon of ‘sense of place’ and widen the conversation on a national level.
