At Originality Deconstructed, a weaving made from plastic, tissue paper, wire, cardboard tubes, sheath core vinyl from Suzanne Tick’s “Refuse DC” series will be on display. Alongside the work will demonstrate the deconstructed nature of the materials used in the piece, which all derive from dry cleaning detritus.
Originality Deconstructed is a traveling exhibition that will take place in three U.S. cities. Be Original Americas invites all active members, across all product & service categories to submit a design and project for consideration.
The idea and goal of the exhibition is to celebrate creativity by pulling back the curtain on the “how” and the “why” behind iconic and new products. Demystifying design will create a true experience of the value of authenticity.
As such, the “deconstructed” component of the exhibition asks members to consider a product and/or material that can be taken apart and displayed for the audience to learn more about materiality, craftsmanship and quality. Members are encouraged to submit ideas for the exhibition that show ingenuity, durability and creativity. Sustainability should also be a focus. Installations, talks and member-supplied “how it’s made” videos will immerse visitors and the public to understand the reality and elevate the value of original designs.
Activations during the exhibition period include talks, student tours, participating member companies, and sponsors bringing groups to visit. The exhibition will be organized and executed in collaboration with ACE HOTEL, which will host this rigorous program in three of its North American locations: New York City, Palm Springs (February 2023) and Los Angeles (March 2023).
