Situated in Stockholm, Torget: Power of Places utilizes its hub for discussions about societal transformations and their challenges. This research project explores methods for preserving the local in Malmö’s urban development processes. A group of architects and artists called Layered examines how the Nyhamnen district could be developed utilizing what already exists.
Layered has studied and mapped everything – from buildings and materials to local experiences and dreams about its future. Based on this, Torget: Power of Places has proposed numerous interventions: a car ramp facing demolition will become an amphitheatre, dismantled fencing will be transformed into woven pergolas, and the wild greenery of the area will become a forest directly on the asphalt. Together with the craft group MalmöVÄV↗, Layered has woven together an installation based on what is already there.
