Join d.talks on June 20 for a virtual Listening Session led by Métis scholar and associate professor, Dr. Yvonne Poitras Pratt. This session is an opportunity to develop an awareness of the narratives and histories that are often untold.
Based on “social imagination,” a concept coined by Maxine Greene that identifies future possibilities in the midst of a contemporary “deficit society,” this session launches our critical writing workshop series WriteON 2020: Rooted: Togetherness in the built environment.
Design Talks Institute is dedicated to advancing education by conducting research regarding architecture and design within the urban environment, and disseminating the results of that research to the public through exhibitions, discussions and open forums. We produce and install exhibitions, and hold workshops, seminars, and conferences for the public regarding architecture, art, and design.
Serving as a public forum, our discussions, screenings, events and exhibitions foster dialogue that bring together multiple perspectives. Each public event is a combination of presentations that open up discussion followed by a distillation of how it relates at a local level. Topics cover a range of contemporary issues on spatial form including heritage, mobility, neighbourhoods, and the social and cultural significance of the public realm.
It’s an informal setting where people with diverse opinions can come together to find common ground. At d.talks, a question is as important as an answer.
There is no fee to participate in this session, but RSVP is required due to limited virtual capacity. You will receive a reading list and a Zoom link upon registration.
