KPMB Architects is seeking a passionate, imaginative and curious Intermediate Interior Designer (Career Level 2) to join its dynamic design team. As an Interior Designer at KPMB, you will play a critical role in shaping innovative and immersive spaces that go beyond aesthetics, fostering meaningful connections between people and their environments. You will work closely with Partners, Principals-In-Charge and Designers to achieve overall project objectives and uphold KPMB’s high standards of quality.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of the design process, including FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment), space planning, technical drawings and material specifications. The firm is looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional who works well in a collaborative environment with exposure and interest in supporting a diverse range of project sectors such as education, commercial, cultural, healthcare, and residential.

Select key responsibilities:

Design Development:

  • Conduct concept/schematic design, space planning, development, technical drawings, detailing, and millwork on assigned projects from early conceptual stages through to completion.
  • Support programming initiatives including space planning, layout design, and the selection and arrangement of furnishings, equipment and accessories. Additionally, oversees lighting design and color coordination to create cohesive and functional interior environments.
  • Render conceptual design ideas and prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings for internal and client meetings.
  • Prepare FF&E documentation, including sourcing, researching, and curating furniture, lighting, flooring, wall coverings, and artwork selections in alignment with the project’s design intent, functional requirements, and budget.
  • Develop furniture plans and FF&E budgets and produce detailed FF&E specifications and schedules to support project documentation and cost control.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers, collaborate with lighting designers and art curators as required, and support clients throughout the procurement process to ensure successful implementation and adherence to project objectives.

Client Interaction & Presentation:

  • Prepare and support the presentation of design concepts and progressive iterations to clients, ensuring clear communication of design intent.
  • Support in client presentations, capturing feedback, and refining design concepts post presentation to align with client vision and project objectives.
  • Develop and/or nurture strong client relationships through effective communication, timely deliverables, and an understanding of client needs and preferences.

Project Collaboration Support:

  • Work closely with Partners, Principals-In-Charge, and Designers to meet overall objectives within the required timeframes while maintaining KPMB quality standards.
  • Collaborate with team members on interior design deliverables across a variety of architectural sectors, including education, commercial, cultural, healthcare, and residential.
  • Work closely with other disciplines, vendors, and/or contractors, as required, to ensure project requirements are met and clear for all parties.
  • Support with consultant and vendor coordination, as required.
  • Work well with others, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment by listening, sharing and supporting team success.

Candidate Profile + Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Interior Designer with a robust understanding of the design process, including FF&E, furniture systems, and specifications, as well as color and materials expertise.
  • Degree in Interior Design or a related field and experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Revit, Rhino, Enscape, Photoshop, Affinity and InDesign.
  • Ambitious, demonstrating a strong desire and drive to succeed
  • Recognized for being a sharp thinker with a demonstrated ability to understand new concepts quickly and make connections between multiple sources of information.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong team orientation with a collaborative mindset.
  • Proactive self-starter with a high level of responsibility and commitment to excellence.
  • Registered member of ARIDO is preferred.
  • NCIDQ certification is an asset.

The compensation range for this role starts at an annualized base salary of $70,000.00 and is commensurate with experience.
