For Alfredo Paredes’s first collection for Patterson Flynn, the designer leaned into his Cuban heritage and Miami roots to develop a series of deeply personal yet statement-making pieces that celebrate handmade artistry.

The Alfredo Paredes rug collection for Patterson Flynn includes eight different designs, each of which features the designer’s trademark blend of contemporary and traditional elements that offer a thoughtful and timeless perspective. With an eclectic interplay of textures and tones, the eight patterns are Gaucho, Nagoya, Nagoya in Bloom, La Amapola, Alphabet Soup, Medanos, Sol and La Zebra.

A loose representation of Bauhaus textiles, Gaucho is wool flatweave made from handspun yarn in three colourways: Blue Multi and Oxblood Multi both feature thick and thin surfaces that add textural interest, while the Sepia Multi variation mixes undyed wool (as the ground) with jute and linen blend stripes (some with a cut pile).

Resembling a patchwork collage, Nagoya pays homage to Japanese Boro textiles and is made with a fine wool flatweave construction. An abrash dyeing technique lends the rug a beautiful watercolour-like effect while its weaving structure imparts a sense of movement. Available in two colours, Patina and Sand/Blush.

Nagoya Bloom replicates the patchwork quality of Nagoya while adding a floral detail layer, for an intriguing antique and graphic mix. The flowers are a surprising detail that enhances the handspun, hand-knotted rug a melange effect. Offered in Indigo, Verdant and Rose Gold.

With a large-scale floral motif, La Amapola from the Alfredo Paredes collection for Patterson Flynn makes a bold statement. Each of the three colours available feature different constructions: The Black & White is made from undyed wool and goat hair (derived from discarded nomadic tents and other recycled materials) for rich tonal variations; Bronze mixes a handspun wool flatweave ground with a silk cut pile; and Red/Sky is made from hand-knotted, handspun wool and silk.

Inspired by a vintage notebook cover featuring different typefaces, Alphabet Soup is also available in three different colours, each with its own construction method. Black & Emerald is a Tibetan hand-knot of wool and silk and features a silk border; all of the letters are in the same colour but some are made from silk to mix matte and shiny finishes. Also a Tibetan knot, the monochromatic True Blue features a wool ground with all silk letters and a looped border of silk and wool. An all-wool Persian hand-knot with a baby fringe, the Vintage Red colour has letters that read as though they were transcribed on parchment paper, an effect achieved through abrash dyeing.

A classic stripe, Medanos plays with materials in different pile heights – the Brindle colour option, a wool flatweave with glints of metallic silver, features slightly raised areas made with a Soumac weave, which creates a textured braided look; and the Russet Multi version combines wool and chunky mohair (for the boucle stripes).

The graphic design of Sol from the Alfredo Paredes rug collection for Patterson Flynn was influenced by a favourite book cover and has a lovely painterly feel. In the Cobalt colour, the Tibetan hand-knotted rug has a wool ground with blue sections made from a wool/silk blend and brown accents of undyed wool. With the Natural colour version, a natural allo background is detailed with silk and a high-twist wool; and in Ochre, wool and nettle are used to create the different pile heights.

The eighth design in the collection from Patterson Flynn is La Zebra, an exaggerated animal pattern in Black & White (hand-knotted using goat hair and undyed wool with a flatweave border); Natural Grey (a wool flatweave ground with chunky cut pile undyed wool stripes) and Navy (an all-wool flatweave with subtle colour variations)
All eight of the rugs in the Alfredo Paredes rug collection from Patterson Flynn are available in two standard sizes as well as the opportunity for custom sizing.
