A recent relaunch, the BM0121 dining table from Carl Hansen & Søn was originally designed by prolific Danish designer Børge Mogensen in 1952 as part of a “democratic furniture series intended for small homes.”

Presented for the first-time during Copenhagen’s 1952 Arts and Crafts Spring Exhibition, the BM0121 dining table from Carl Hansen & Søn is now the first round, extendable dining table in the brand’s collection.

Deceptively simple at initial glance, the BM0121 dining table features a number of complex details: The super-thin FSC-certified solid oak tabletop measures just 1.9 centimetres and is supported by concealed bent-steel reinforcements; the upwardly curved apron allows for plenty of legroom; and the tapered legs give the profile visual lightness.

When re-developing the BM0121 dining table, Carl Hansen & Søn had only a surviving original to work from since no drawings or plans existed — the archival piece was meticulously measured by hand to ensure exact proportions.

Adhering to Børge Mogensen’s elegant yet functional approach to design, the BM0121 dining table expresses the Scandinavian minimalism he helped define.

A beautiful example of traditional craftsmanship, the dining table also highlights the designer’s inherent understanding of modern living and Carl Hansen & Søn’s passion for elevating and preserving Danish design classics.

Still perfectly suitable for smaller living spaces, the BM0121 dining table is made from solid oak (in natural oil, white oil, lacquer or soap finishes) and comfortably seats up to four people as is or up to six people with the additional insert leaf, which is available in oak or in grey or black MDF.
