The Border side table by student Yiting (Erin) Hou was the winning selection from the annual multidisciplinary design studio sponsored by Bernhardt Design and the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California.

Meeting this year’s mandate to create mobile or easily adaptable furniture pieces for commercial spaces, Hou developed the sculptural and lightweight Border side table for Bernhardt, which is defined by its sinuous and open base.

Inspired by the sport of skating, the table embodies a quiet power in its elegant and well-balanced core structure and “expresses a kind of movable lightness, which is physically delicate and visually conveys a sense of slimness and gracefulness,” according to the designer.

While the profile of the oval-shaped table changes depending on how its positioned or approached, what remains constant is its finely crafted smoothness and graceful curves.

The Border side table is made from solid walnut or oak, with each variant offered in a range of natural and select finishes (19 for the oak and eight for the walnut).
