Design Studio Niruk of Belgium designed the Calligra mirror for Deknudt, defined by its curious blending of elegance and playfulness. Named for and inspired by the art of beautiful writing – or calligraphy – the Calligra mirror from Deknudt reflects the graceful pen strokes and embodies the flow of movement and transformation.

To begin, Design Studio Niruk – helmed by founder Nina Ruthe and studio partner David Antonin – experimented with the flexibility of paper, exploring how a flat sheet could frame an oval mirror in a unique and surprising way. When opposites of the paper were bent apart, an even tension was created, with the material deforming with a natural and pleasing effect.

This was translated to the Calligra mirror from Deknudt, which features a refined and three-dimensional frame with captivating curves that enclose the oval-shaped mirror. Transforming a usually static and flat element into a dynamic sculptural one showcases Design Studio Niruk’s material expertise and love of experimentation.

Playing with lines and surfaces, perspective and spatial perception, the Calligra mirror is more than a functional object, it’s an expression of timeless elegance, technical perfection and quiet composure and a suggestion that “everything is a matter of perspective.”

The hand-crafted Calligra mirror from Deknudt can be wall-mounted horizontally or vertically and features a graphic, black-painted metal frame.
Known as the “mirror master-maker,” the family-owned Deknudt has specialized in the reflective and expressive interior accessory since its founding in 1946. It’s production of premium, made-to-measure single- and double-sided mirror doors for bathroom cabinets are complemented by its precision-crafted “design mirrors,” which are created by both in-house designers and through close collaboration with international designers.
