The design of the Ellie patient recliner by Von Robinson (founder of multidisciplinary design studio Play Orbit) prioritizes dignity, intuitive use and holistic well-being, and also introduces warmth and connection to traditionally sterile environments.
Defined by soft gentle curves inspired by those found in nature, the Ellie patient recliner from Kwalu has a distinctly non-medial aesthetic and enhances the comfort level for patients, care givers and clinicians.
The thoughtful design of the Ellie patient recliner includes an embracing back, postural support and considerate materiality. Further, the loop arms, convenient side lever, push bar and bumper base are made from Kwalu Protea, the brand’s durable non-porous material that effortlessly withstands the rigors of healthcare environments.
Key elements of the Ellie patient recliner that support and nurture the physical and emotional well-being of its users include: an inclined footrest that tucks underneath the seat for “better positioning from sit to stand”; an ergonomic and sturdy push bar that aids in positioning the recliner; and fully replaceable components (back, seat, arm panels and casters with bumpers).
Further optional enhancements include an adjustable headrest and upholstered arm panels; heat and massage features; an IV pole holder; a Foley bag hook; and optional transfer arm that can be raised and lowered to support patient transfers.
The Ellie patient recliner by Von Robinson for Kwalu is available in a range of textile options for the upholstery as well as a variety of finishes for the hardware and glides, which include premium metallics to different wood tones, from rich mahogany and walnut to pale sugar maple and weathered teak.
