When creating the Fly lamp collection for lighting brand Contardi, Italian designer Massimiliano Raggi was intent on delivering a product that balanced strength with seeming fragility. The result is a linear series of lamps that are visually impactful, technically advanced and suitable for residential, retail, museum and hospitality spaces as well as the outdoors.
Simple yet sophisticated, the Fly family of lamps is centred around a consistent orthogonal structure that transforms spaces with an expressive linearity. The striking Fly Long floor lamp (and the smaller Fly Floor version), for example, is reminiscent of a pencil stroke running lengthwise across a sheet of paper. When the light is turned on, the slender body is illuminated on either side of its double-faced dimmable profile, giving the illusion that the slender body has disappeared. With the addition of a top shade, the Fly Torch floor lamp produces an ambient light through both a vertical rear profile and a luminous upper disc – the light can emanate from one or both sides, is dimmable and allows for tailored lighting levels.
The Fly Ap Remote wall light, meanwhile, features double light emission to cast direct and indirect illumination, singularly or combined. The option for a “vela” accessory means the shade can be equipped with a textile diffuser in a white cotton or Calacatta marble-effect fabric for a softer glow.
A modern suspension light, Fly Multiple blends architectural and decorative styles with the possibility to position the arms in various compositions. Upper and lower light emission allows for the control of illumination intensity, from direct to ambient.
Offered in two heights (60 or 90 cm), Fly Outdoor also features double light emission and has been finished with a marine-grade treatment to ensure its integrity. The bollard-like lamps can be fixed directly to a hard surface or arranged as freestanding pickets (through the use of separately sold accessories) to brighten passageways, driveways, terraces and gardens.
Each member of the Fly lamp family is offered in a number of refined finishes, including satin gold nickel, brushed bronze-nickel and anthracite; the Fly Outdoor can be finished in bronze or black lacquer.
