The Loominary collection from Creative Matters has been expanded to include new designs and colourways. With subtly shifting tones, textures and pile heights, the compelling surfaces appear to change depending on where the rug is perceived from.
A series of hand-knotted rugs, the Loominary collection is designed in Toronto and handcrafted in Nepal; each rug within the collection expresses a distinct tactile play on illusion. Featuring abstract forms, clean lines and gradated palettes, the rugs help define and anchor interior spaces with unique personalities. The new introductions include Lucent Amethyst, Kiaro Sepia, Ebb Dune, Sorial Sepia, Stria Natural, Vestige Lunara and Obscura Amber.
Like sunlight diffused through soft fabric, Lucent Amethyst radiates a gentle and steady glow in rich violet tones that change from saturated to subtle across the surface. Curved lines rise and fall with precision, producing a harmonious tonal shift. Made from a blend of Tibetan wool (70 per cent) and Chinese silk (30 per cent), Amethyst joins Cedar and Natural as colour options for Lucent.
With Kiaro Sepia, complementary shapes move across the surface, lending it a slight sheen and soft finish, while the warm sepia tones create a low-lit and versatile finish. A six-millimetre pile gives the undyed Tibetan wool (55 per cent) and Chinese silk (45 per cent) blend a plush feel underfoot.
The Ebb rug (originally available in Ocean) draws inspiration from the sea’s quieter and calmer moments. The new Ebb Dune colourway blurs sandy tones across the surface like watercolour on raw paper, with detailed edges breaking through the monotone surface like cresting waves. It is hand-knotted from Tibetan wool (60 per cent), undyed Allo (a natural fibre derived from the stem and bark of the Himalayan giant nettle plant; 30 per cent) and Chinese silk (10 per cent).
A celebration of sophisticated earth tones and rich sepia hues, Sorial Sepia adds a layer of warmth to spaces. Combining 60 per cent Chinese silk and 40 per cent Tibetan wool, the silk-forward blend has a luminous appearance with a soft drape to the six-millimetre cut pile.
Defined by a steady linear flow and natural transitions, Stria Natural has a tonal clarity that is earthy, warm and subtly varied to create a rhythmic surface. Hand-knotted from Matka silk (30 per cent), Cactus (40 per cent) and Tibetan wool (30 per cent), Stria is also available in Clay and Pebble.
Visually capturing what fades — a trace of light, a memory, a shadow — Vestige Lunara is composed of angled blocks that traverse atmospheric gradients of rich colour. Fine lines carve the edges of the shapes with precision, with the resulting pattern both graphic and relaxed. Made from Tibetan wool (50 per cent) and Chinese silk (50 per cent), Vestige is also available in Solara.
The final introduction to the Loominary collection from Creative Matters is Obscura Amber, an asymmetrical arrangement of geometric shapes in warm golden tones that emit a soft ambered glow. A blend of Tibetan wool (60 per cent) and Chinese silk (40 per cent), Obscura is also offered in Goldenrod.
