With MDEAR, designer Sebastian Herkner introduces a new category of modular outdoor lounge furniture for DEDON — one that prioritizes organic form, adaptability and emotional connection. Its name is derived from the word “endear,” reflecting the collection’s intention to captivate and create meaningful moments in outdoor spaces.

The collection is composed of five sculptural modular elements that can function independently or be combined to create larger seating arrangements. Each piece resembles a soft island of comfort, allowing homeowners and designers to shape outdoor environments that evolve with changing needs. Whether used as a single lounge chair on a balcony or arranged into expansive configurations for social gatherings, MDEAR adapts seamlessly to its surroundings.

Herkner approached the design with the goal of creating something less rigid and architectural than traditional outdoor seating. Instead, he turned to nature for inspiration, studying the curves of leaves, dunes and waves. The result is a series of fluid, rounded forms that feel welcoming and intuitive while maintaining a bold visual presence.

Central to the collection is DEDON’s signature weaving craftsmanship. The pieces feature a striking handwoven construction that combines a tight, structured weave for the seat with a more open weave along the backrest. This interplay creates visual rhythm and enhances the sense of depth and texture throughout the design. The pattern itself is inspired by an enlarged interpretation of the iconic weave first introduced in Herkner’s earlier collaboration with DEDON, translating a familiar motif into a contemporary scale.
