Summer 2026

The June/July/August 2026 edition of AZURE is dedicated to our 16th annual AZ Awards — and also features the best of Milan, the New Museum’s expansion, the latest in building envelope systems and more!

The AZ Awards issue packs much more than our winners and finalists — though they certainly take pride of place. (And you can read all about them on our dedicated AZ Awards site.)

Comprised of a shapely metallic dome set on a curved plate, Slamp’s PurityCapsule could easily be mistaken for sculpture. In actuality, it’s a device designed to cleanse and purify everyday objects and was developed while Italy was in the early phase of pandemic lockdown.

A collaboration with the Department of Molecular and Developmental Medicine of the Università degli Studi di Siena, the capsule has the ability to cleanse everyday accessories to effectively eliminate 99.99 per cent of viral and bacterial strains, including Sars-Cov2.

The semi-transparent dome has been treated with a metalized protective finish that emits a blue glow and shields the eye from photobiological risks from the internal UV-C rays; inside, mirror-silver coral-shaped protrusions prop up the items being cleaned (everything from keys, wallets and eyeglasses to phones, jewellery, face masks, or any small handheld object). Available in black or white, the base has a light independent from the sanitizing UVC bulb that casts a decorative glow on the surface it sits on.

The laboratory-tested UV-C disinfection cycle lasts for only 30 seconds, will automatically turn off when complete and has a shut-off feature that will immediately stop the cycle if the dome is lifted or moved mid-cleanse.
