The new Res seating collection from Allseating was devised by Toronto-based design studio modus ID with the goal of supporting active learning in higher education settings. Meeting the needs of modern principles, the research-based seating concept is thoughtful, adaptable and multipurpose.
Res is defined by its hybrid approach that combines elements of comfortable lounge seating with flexible options that make each module suitable for accommodating collaborative spaces; the modern aesthetic is easy to integrate into existing designs and sophisticated to match the needs of mature students.
Two base versions are included, which can be equipped with glides (for more permanent and static setups) or casters (for spaces that need to be quickly and easily rearranged); the two back heights offered comfortably support a variety of body types.
Furthering the Res seating collection’s functionality are a number of considerate details: a lower shelf that frees up workspace by holding phones and chargers, stationery and other small items, an open-access cubby in the base for personal items as well as a standard-size cup holder and a coat hook. A 90-degree rotating tablet surface can be added on either the left or right side.
A backless stool is also included in the collection and all bases can be in smoke or black colourways and have a ribbed surface that is easy to clean and deters graffiti. Multiple fabric options are available for the upholstered portions.
