For its first lighting collection, called Riaz, Colombian furniture and accessories brand Ames collaborated with British designer Ilse Crawford and her team at Studioilse. The series celebrates traditional South American pottery and weaving techniques.
The refined and minimal designs emphasis natural materials and fine textures while highlighting quality craftsmanship. Each lamp in the series – a pendant, a table light and a floor lamp – features a handmade, cone-shaped ceramic shade with a glazed interior that contributes a warm glow.
Crawford selected hand-woven details to contrast the solid nature of the clay shades – a tactile cuff made from fibres of the Iraca palm that are woven using ancient methods decorates the shades and connects them to the textile cable that attaches to the fixture.
Shade exteriors are offered in five colourways (black, terracotta, trebol green, olive green and pasto green) and the underside comes in white or black glaze shimmers; the woven detailing, meanwhile, is available in black, natural beige or an earthy brown.
