Known since 1984 for its high-quality, regenerable wooden flooring and surfaces, Bavaria-based Schotten & Hansen recently introduced Ridgeline, a flexible and magnet-compatible wooden surface.

For the design of the panels, Schotten & Hansen took inspiration from the natural ridgeline of the Alps between Bavaria and Italy while also nodding to the rugged yet refined character of naturally weathered timber and aged wood.

Expressing a unique textured layer, Ridgeline from Schotten & Hansen features a finely crafted surface that showcases the raw beauty of split wood and is finished in a deep-brown bog oak hue.

Made with an oak top layer and an ultra-thin iron foil backing, the Ridgeline panels are fabricated through a special technique that results in a three-dimensional relief structure with revealed facets that create a compelling play with light and shadow.

Suitable for panelled wall surfaces and furniture fronts, the panels can be mounted conventionally (screwing or gluing) or using magnetic adhesion, which requires complementary Schotten & Hansen magnetic plates. The flexibility of the magnetic installation method allows for the panels to be repositioned in a new layout or reused in a different space, enhancing the system’s sustainability and circular design.

The composition of the individual panel structures is such that the left and right sides are different, with one side being a “valley” and the opposite side a “ridge;” different configurations are realized by turning the panels 90 and 180 degrees. Formatted in rectangular panels (60 by 12 centimetres), Ridgeline from Schotten & Hansen can be installed in near-endless configurations and visual effects that range from striking and subdued to traditional.
