Helsinki-based Studio Tolvanen developed the Rolo collection of lounge seating for Memo to express a comforting residential aesthetic intended to foster feelings of relaxation and calm in commercial and contract environments. The designers – Mika and Julie Tolvanen – started by creating an interior pillow from the inside out, and then gave the structures curved arms and an undulating back.
Constructed to adhere to contract industry standards, the seating is made from wood – solid and veneer – with a two-step conversion varnish that offers resistance to wear and tear in high-traffic settings. The wood frame is offered in a range of natural-wood finishes as well as painted and can be upholstered in Kvadrat and Maharam fabrics.
Comprised of a lounge chair, loveseat, three-seater sofa plus coffee and side tables, the standalone Rolo pieces have the versatility of a configurable system due to their aligned heights, shared parts and modular cushions. The single-slat tabletops feature a raised lip to keep items contained and provide a surface for plants, pots and containers.
