Danish studio Space Copenhagen has expanded its Seine lighting concept for Gubi to include a portable lamp that maintains the line’s original waterborne influence and mood-setting play of light.
Like its predecessors (the Seine pendant, ceiling mount fixture and table lamp), the portable Seine lamp features a defining mouth-blown glass shade with sinuous patterning evocative of water streaking down a pane of glass or a gently flowing river.
The clover-like, dome-shaped shade treads the line between modern and vintage and is affixed to the squat steel base with antique brass finish – which doubles as a handle — by four metal arms. Transparent on the outside and sandblasted on the interior, the shade has a pronounced depth and, combined with the digitally created surface pattern and a frosted glass diffuser, casts a complex yet soothing illumination.
Charged via a supplied USB-C docking station, the Seine portable lamp is fully charged in eight hours and lasts from between seven and 50 hours, depending on the dimmer setting chosen; the touch-activated dimmer offers three levels of illumination.
While charging and storing should be done inside, Gubi’s Seine portable lamp can also be used outside as it is splash-proof and resistant to soil and sand.
