Applying his signature sophisticated whimsy to ceramics, prolific designer Karim Rashid has developed the Skallop collection for Turkish manufacturer Kütahya Porselen. A direct nod to the imperfections found in nature, the pieces are defined by their eye-catchingly irregular forms and saturated colours and aim to “create a democratic collection of dishes that appear handmade, and […] marry nature and food in our organic ritual of eating,” according to Rashid.
The two-part series is offered in Ivory White – a timeless hue inspired by the saltwater species the collection is named – and Colored, varying shades of pink and blue that are achieved by injecting the raw materials with pigments to diffuse colour through the entire body. Skallop can be mixed and matched and includes plates, bowls, mugs and platters.
