Marcel Wanders has added two new formats to his Skynest series of woven dome lights for Flos. Like the original 2022 design, the sculptural fixtures explore the traditional pendant light shape but with an innovative twist – rather than having light emit through a central core or bulb, Skynest is composed of 24 LED sticks that are wrapped in a two-tone textile and weaved together to create the main structure.
Illumination comes from the white underside while the coloured exterior remains constantly visible. Another 48 rods finish the intricate design and give life to the lamp.
With Skynest Motion, the basket-like structure is elegantly suspended by a slender stem, which is attached to the ceiling and held in place by a counter-weight system.
The height can be adjusted thanks to a power cable that runs through a painted steel channel, with the weight locking it in place via a unique clamp. An integrated balancing mechanism allows for the shade itself to be adjusted and perfectly positioned.
The cordless Skynest Ceiling, meanwhile, is an ideal choice for low-ceilinged rooms and introduces a warm uniform light. A canopy attaches it directly to the ceiling and a T-shaped pin allows for 90-degree rotation.
Artisan-inspired and technically advanced, the Skynest series uses specially designed LED strips coated with a tubular fabric – a recycled polyester sock that is threaded onto the rod. Four colourways are available: classic black Anthracite; Almond, a non-traditional white; charmingly warm Brick Red; and hazy sky-like Tourmaline Blue.
