W1 Stack Shelving System by Berlin-based designer Dirk Winkel for Loehr

Berlin-based designer Dirk Winkel developed the W1 Stack shelving system for German brand Loehr with a strong architectural quality and inherent versatility. The modular system is comprised of a series of boards and side panels – made from sheet metal and aluminum – that can be assembled in a variety of ways to form a rigid grid structure that is supremely stable and sturdy.

The dimensions of the individual components were calculated to properly contain common and everyday items in order to max out its functionality at home and the office. To maintain a streamlined and industrial aesthetic, the bolt mounting points of the boards and panels are cleverly concealed so as not to be visible from the exterior.

Aside from conventional shelving units – which can be stacked to desired heights – the versatile system (which includes legs, back and side panels can be configured as a sideboard, side table or a retail display rack. When assembling, the top panel can be installed as a flat surface or flipped 180 degrees to be mounted as a tray with raised edges. 

Yellow and grey shelves

Two polyester resin-based powder-coat colourways are offered – Zinc Yellow and Light Grey – and the W1 Stack shelving system is shipped flat-pack with all elements able to be separated for replacement or recycling.
