The Workshop Kitchen by Loose Parts reimagines freestanding kitchen cabinetry as collectible furniture that draws inspiration from Wiener Werkstätte’s ideals.
Designed by the Hudson Valley-based studio’s founder Jennifer June, the Workshop Kitchen from Loose Parts is a modular cabinet system that uses uniform heights to create a consistent horizon line throughout the kitchen.
Made from solid Northeast hardwoods (including oak, maple and cherry), the frame-and-panel construction of the Workshop Kitchen introduces a diverse yet balanced aesthetic with compositional integrity. Each board of wood is carefully curated, and wood grains are matched to create a harmonious and cohesive look.
The quality craftsmanship is displayed through visible dovetail joinery and hand-cut joints, elements that are rooted in Shaker traditions and transform functional features into decorative expressions. Hand-sanded, the surfaces have gently rounded edges that invite touch.
Seizing an opportunity to create bespoke kitchen cabinetry, the Workshop Kitchen from Loose Parts is an artisanal alternative to mass-produced offerings; the traditional joinery methods used allow for easy disassembly and reconfiguration, meaning the cabinets can not only be repaired and refinished if necessary, but the configurations can be altered as needs change.
Custom hardware was also considered when devising the Workshop Kitchen and includes decorative rosettes in oxidized black or hand-cast pewter and substantial and sculptural drawer pulls made using a historic wax-casting method. The jewel-like accents enhance the statement-making cabinetry and highlight the bolt joinery that allows for the system’s modularity.
Another refined detail that elevates the overall design is are gathered leather divider drawer inserts that create fabric-like folds for flatware storage. The Workshop Kitchen from Loose Parts considers every detail to offer a fully functional, hard-working and elegant kitchen.
