Clear Coil collection of pendants from LightArt

With the Clear Coil collection, sustainable lighting brand LightArt introduces the first-of-its-kind optically clear, 3D-printed pendant light to the commercial lighting industry. Utilizing molecular recycling technology, the company has been able to upcycle a range of discarded materials – from clothing and carpet fibres to dense plastic containers and packaging – into crystal-clear light fixtures.

This process reduces plastics into molecular components from which new materials are derived; molecular recycling can break down a broader variety of plastic waste an infinite number of times compared to traditional mechanical recycling processes, which is restricted to specific plastics that can only be recycled a finite number of times.

By incorporating this technology for the Coil collection, LightArt has been able to increase the recycled content used without compromising the beauty or quality of the finished product.

Along with the new transparent material, the Coil collection offers six new pendant shapes that vary from geometric to organic. Dubbed the M series – M standing for “molecular” – the numbered pendants are divided into two families: M1, M2 and M3 are smaller and emphasize angles and forms that highlight the material’s clarity and internal light refraction.

Pendants M4, M5 and M6, meanwhile, are offered in two sizes each: M4 has a profile reminiscent of a ceramic bottle; the six-faceted M5 has a subtle hexagonal shape; and M6’s elongated silhouette was inspired by raindrops, beehives and other forms found in nature.

The release of the Clear Coil collection coincides with LightArt’s newest closed-loop system initiative, the Coil Collection Take Back Program that encourages customers to return any of their Coil pendants to the company at end of life so that they can be properly repurposed.
