At Salone del Mobile and throughout Milan Design Week, exhibitors channelled the moody mystique of a dark dance floor. Here’s a recap of five launches ushering in a metallic design trend.
1
Puff by Tom Dixon

At Euroluce, Tom Dixon kicked off the new days of disco with the introduction of Puff, a polyhedral design made from 30 perforated steel panels.
2
Gem by La Manufacture

La Manufacture’s Sebastian Herkner–designed Gem dining table rests a glossy lacquered tabletop on a bed of gleaming pebble-shaped supports.
3
Poêle by Alessi

Philippe Starck adapted a manufacturing technique typically used to make frying pans to develop the mirror-polished stainless-steel seat of Alessi’s Poêle. A brown-stained beechwood frame finishes off the futuristic throne.
4
Torus by Tacchini

Umberto Bellardi Ricci modelled Tacchini’s flying saucer–like Torus pouffes on the ventilation ducts in the factory that produces his prototypes.
5
Pilotis by Minotti

Another example of 2023’s metallic design trend, Minotti’s Pilotis console by Rodolfo Dordoni tucks a half-cylinder of brushed licorice-lacquered ash inside a polished stainless-steel frame.
