Panorama House kitchen designed by LRD Studio, with Bosch appliances

In a place like Whistler, British Columbia, even the most spectacular design elements can’t hope to compete with the majesty of the landscape. Instead, the best architecture and interiors quietly complement — and defer to — their natural surroundings, allowing the raw beauty of rugged mountains, crisp blue skies and dramatic alpine evergreens to take centre stage. In the town’s bucolic Brio neighbourhood, the recently completed Panorama House exemplifies the sensitivity of West Coast modern traditions par excellence.

Crafted by Shelter Residential Design with interiors by Lauren Ritz of LRD Studio, the striking yet contextually attuned abode discreetly transforms one of the neighbourhood’s last undeveloped lots into a tranquil haven. Split into two volumes linked by an elegant glass passageway, the aptly named home opens up to the breathtaking vistas of the landscape. Throughout the residence, carefully framed views of nature elevate a thoughtfully pared-down interior. The effect is particularly arresting in the kitchen, which serves as the home’s social heart.

Overlooking a giant boulder, the gracefully streamlined kitchen is a welcoming hub of clean lines, organic materials and well-resolved proportions. “The Whistler mountains, forest and rock face inspired a warm, natural palette in the kitchen, featuring oak and honed stone,” says Ritz. “These materials echo the textures and tones of the outdoors. The open layout preserves sightlines and maximizes natural light, making the kitchen feel like an extension of the landscape.” It’s a careful balance — finding appliances that not only perform but enhance the aesthetic. For this project, the refined Bosch 500 Series Gas Cooktop and 800 Series Combination Oven offered a seamless extension of the sophisticated ambiance.

“The sleek, minimal design and integrated finishes of Bosch appliances complement the kitchen’s natural materials and open layout, blending in without overshadowing the architectural details,” Ritz explains. “We designed the oak millwork specifically to fit around the appliances, allowing them to integrate perfectly into the cabinetry. This approach maintained clean lines and a cohesive overall look, ensuring the appliances enhanced rather than distracted from the kitchen’s stunning details.”

And while the design pairs perfectly with Ritz’s refined sensibility, aesthetics don’t come at the expense of performance. “Bosch appliances always provide an efficient, dependable kitchen experience,” says Ritz. “Their intuitive controls and smart features simplify cooking and cleanup, supporting a modern lifestyle and making the kitchen highly functional. Bosch’s commitment to quality, sustainability and timeless design closely aligns with our values. Their durable, energy-efficient appliances support our goal of creating functional, beautiful spaces that respect both clients and the environment.”

In the kitchen of Panorama House, these shared values come together to create an exceptionally coherent space — a serene, sociable haven that integrates beautifully with the idyllic natural surroundings. In other words, it’s the best room in the house.
