iceland ski snow cabin design competition

Buildner has announced the international “Iceland Ski Snow Cabin” design competition. This challenge invites architects and designers to conceive a cozy, eco-friendly ski cabin that complements Iceland’s captivating landscape. The contest seeks pragmatic and sustainable designs. This is a chance to craft a landmark that marries functionality with the mystic allure of Icelandic winters.

Entries will be judged on innovation, aesthetic appeal, and environmental sensitivity. The winning design will enhance Iceland’s ski resort community and celebrate the intersection of nature and architecture. 

Brief:

  • Participants are tasked with designing a small-scale cabin that will serve as a warm, inviting pit stop for skiers.
  • This structure should blend functionality with the enchanting Icelandic aesthetic, providing facilities that cater to comfort and practical needs, while also framing the stunning vistas of the surrounding environment.
  • The cabin must integrate features such as a rest and warmth area, a self-serve refreshment station, changing rooms, toilets, equipment storage, and a maintenance garage for a snow groomer.

Eligibility:

  • Competition is open to all. No professional qualification is required.
  • Design proposals can be developed individually or by teams (4 team members maximum).
  • Correspondence with organizers must be conducted in English; All information submitted by participants must be in English.

Prizes:

  • 1st Place: 5,000 €
  • 2nd Place: 2,500 €
  • 3rd Place: 1,000 €
  • Student Award: 1,000 €
  • Sustainability Award: 500 €
  • 6 Honourable mentions & certificates: Buildner will acknowledge the outstanding performance of all winners and honourable mentions with Certificates of Achievement.
