Norwegians looking to hit the slopes typically make their way to Hafjell, a 1994 Winter Olympics venue located a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Oslo. Now, thanks to architecture firm Reiulf Ramstad, the area’s mountains aren’t the only summits that will impress intrepid winter enthusiasts. Favn, a new resort community developed by Alpinco Gondoltoppen, features 27 (and counting) short-term rental suites serviced by a dedicated gondola.

Delivering a crisp, modern update on traditional timber-clad cabins, these clusters of slender, pitched-roof chalets are punctuated with pentagonal windows and a combination of inset and projecting balconies. Additional buildings round out the intimate village with a grocery store, café, restaurant and equipment rental facility.

Following in the ski tracks carved by Charlotte Perriand with the Alpine resort Les Arcs back in the 1960s, the project draws upon the character of its natural setting to deliver a winter getaway that feels warm and welcoming even as the temperature drops.
