Jinju National Museum Design Competition

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Jinju National Museum have partnered to launch a design competition for a new Jinju National Museum.

The current location of Jinju National Museum is within the Jinjuseong fortress, a designated national historic site. This restriction makes it impossible to expand the museum and its facilities. Ultimately, it creates difficulties in improving outdated facilities, carrying out safety control of collections, along with providing convenience and safety.

The Jinju National Museum will relocate to provide better services to visitors. The design must be made up of three areas: the main museum building, the children’s museum, and lastly, a (tentative) welcome center (multi-use public space) connecting the main museum and children’s museum. The design should include exhibition space, storage space, educational space, office and research space, as well as other spaces like hallways and restrooms.

This competition is open to all licensed architects, Korean or otherwise. Participants may enter individually or as a joint group of up to three participants.

The winning entry of the Jinju National Museum Design Competition will receive a certificate of award as well as the priority negotiation rights for the design development, construction document, and design implementation of the project.
