With UMBAU: Nonstop Transformation, gmp presents its approach to building conversions through specific case studies. Along with the Dresden Kulturpalast and the Pressehaus at Alexanderplatz, the exhibition at Architektur Galerie Berlin showcases three successful examples of how to convert and preserve East German modernist buildings.
The Berlin event will start off with an opening night on October 17th from 7PM, with the exhibition opening from October 18th until October 26th. There will also be a short film screening on October 21st from 7PM, and a curator’s tour on October 26th, 3PM, at the Architektur Galerie Berlin.
In New York, the exhibition will focus on the current global challenges relating to building conversions using different typologies. The transformation of high-rise buildings will be covered, as will the conversion of cultural and sports buildings in Europe and Asia, including the recently completed Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid and the Isarphilharmonie in Munich.
The New York event will start with an opening reception on October 9th at 6:30PM, with the exhibition open from October 10th to November 6th. There will also be two panels about adaptive reuse and sustainability in conversions on October 10th and October 16th, with a variety of multidisciplinary speakers.
UMBAU: Nonstop Transformation is also part of the Archtober architecture and design festival in New York and will be featured during the Open House New York Weekend.
