Yabu Pushelburg is seeking an Intermediate Lighting Designer to join their office in New York City, NY, USA. The Lighting Designer will be part of Yabu Pushelburg’s Lightning Studio’s origin story, collectively working towards cultivating the studio’s unique point of view while collaborating with leading designers in their field.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and collaborate in all phases of project from concept design through planning.
- Select directional mood imagery to craft a design narrative and further develop concept design with renderings and sketch lighting plans.
- Formulate preliminary fixture direction.
- Refine project design strategy.
- Coordinate with interior design teams to develop approved design into buildable drawings.
- Develop specification packages for lighting fixtures and control.
- Acquire and coordinate samples from vendors.
- Prepare mock-ups to illustrate/test lighting effects.
- Develop a complete drawing package, including lighting layouts, zoning, and detailing.
- Coordinate with Project Management team in the development of budgets, and any necessary preparations for tender issuances.
- Answer contractor/vendor queries and provide site clarifications.
- Review Shop Drawings and Submittals.
- Perform site inspections and supervise final focusing of light fixtures and programming of control system.
- Review with Project Manager, Project Leaders, Team Leader, Directors and/or Principals throughout.
Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Lighting Design OR related field of Design with an emphasis on lighting.
- 3+ years of work experience in lighting design.
- Adequate knowledge of the lighting design profession.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop & InDesign), and Bluebeam.
- Proficiency in AGi32 or other lighting photometric calculation software.
- Ability to switch and prioritize between several projects or tasks at once, demonstrating effective deadline management.
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Must posses a strong balance of conceptual thinking and technical knowledge.
