WHY Architecture are looking for a Senior Project Manager who is passionate about design and has the skills to manage complex, high design, multi stakeholder institutional projects. This full-time hybrid Project Architect role is located in Los Angeles, California with the option for some remote work (currently in-office days are T, W, Th).

Founded in 2004, WHY Architecture is a multi-disciplinary design practice with offices in Los Angeles and New York City. The 40+ person practice is organized as five interdependent workshops: Buildings, Landscape, Museums, Objects, and Ideas, enabling the team to work across multiple sectors and combine different forms of expertise to generate progressive solutions for projects. WHY has gained a reputation as a thought-leader in the fields of cultural and civic architecture, taking on major cultural landmark projects globally.

 In this role, you will:

  • Lead the internal and external project team from SD- through completion of the project.
  • Be responsible for delivering the contract and maintaining project compliance.
  • Have the soft skills to ensure quality service to the client while representing the best interests of the firm.
  • Negotiate contracts and changes as required.
  • Ensure QC processes are implemented. Apply best practice to deliver the work.
  • Report on progress and financial performance of the contract on regular basis to leadership.
  • Manage the team, allocate resources as needed, and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Support Directors as a supervisor to all team members. Mentor staff and provide necessary team training.
  • Manage the project budget, schedule and deliverables.
  • Coordinate and lead all meetings, whether internal or external. Direct team members/ design leads as appropriate to deliver presentations.
  • Work with leaders to continuously improve design process and collaboration within the multidisciplinary studio.
  • Have opportunity for growth in the organization, including management training, while mentoring and supporting junior staff.
  • Support Directors in new pursuits.

Required Skills and Credentials.

  • Bachelors degree, B.Arch or M.Arch preferred.
  • Minimum ten years’ experience including at least 5 years demonstrated experience in Project Management.
  • Examples of exhibition design and/ or production project management experience.
  • Experience in cultural and civic architecture, mixed-use developments, and landmark projects is a plus.
  • Strong listening skills with superior, professional communication skills, both verbal and written in client facing roles.
  • Proficiency in project management software, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Suite.
  • Experience using design software such as Rhino, AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage complex projects and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to manage up; ability to work collaboratively with complex teams.
  • Strategic thinking skills.
  • Experience with Submittals and Building Information Modeling (BIM) (preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and remotely, as well as collaborate with others effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with situational understanding.

Additional Skills/Credentials that will be considered a plus:

  • Registered Architect in CA
  • LEED AP
  • PMP

Position Type, Compensation & Benefits:

  • This is a full time, exempt position that is salaried with benefits.
  • Compensation depends highly on experience, but WHY offers base salaries at or above market rates.
  • Benefits include Health, 401k, and a Flexible PTO policy for all Full-Time Exempt employees.
