Heatherwick Studio is hiring a Technical Design Lead with 10+ years of experience in a similar role. You’ll be based out of their office in London, United Kingdom. This is an opportunity for you to provide technical understanding, leadership and technical risk management on projects. Heatherwick Studio is looking for a Technical Design Lead who who takes a proactive approach to technical risk, balances big-picture thinking with attention to detail and mentors emerging talent.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and train project teams on technical design and construction, ensuring clarity in deliverables and adherence to quality standards.
- Guide teams to maintain technical excellence while balancing cost, site, and contractor constraints; encourage innovative technical solutions.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to design, health & safety, and project delivery.
- Present technical proposals clearly to clients and consultants; participate in design reviews and ensure the studio’s intent is realized.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Delivery Architects to align on scope, responsibilities, and project execution.
- Participate in peer reviews, contribute to the development of quality systems, and support professional indemnity compliance.
- Develop and deliver training programs, drawing standards, and CPD initiatives to enhance studio capabilities.
- Engage with industry bodies, stay current with technologies and regulations, and promote knowledge-sharing across the studio.
- Build strong professional relationships internally and externally to support collaboration and project success.
Qualifications
- Architectural background preferred, with minimum 10 years’ experience in similar role.
- Excellent level of technical competency and industry knowledge.
- Extensive experience of technical design development, delivery and construction.
- Extensive experience of the UK Building Regulations
- Experience in complex international projects within collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience of inspiring and steering teams toward a desired outcome; effective team and people
management. - Clear understanding of scopes of service and sub-consultant appointment documents
- Clear understanding of construction procurement routes and how they affect the design process
- Experience of supporting the development of others.
