Beni Rugs Collection DWR

Comprised of three designs – the Everest, Manor and Sebastian rugs – the new Beni Rugs collection for DWR marks the second rug collaboration with the Morocco-based rug-maker.

Founded in 2018 by Robert Wright and Tiberio Lobo-Navia, Beni Rugs operates its studio in Marrakech and employs skilled weavers at a women-led workshop who use centuries-old techniques to craft the Atlas Mountain wool rugs on traditional looms; each rug takes approximately 12 weeks to complete.

For the Beni Rugs collection for DWR, inspiration came from early 20th-century Austrian interior architecture, specifically translating the works of Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser – co-founders of the Vienna Secession – and Otto Prutscher, whose style was influenced by the art movement.

For the Everest rug, Beni Rugs drew on the bold lines and gridded windows of Palais Stoclet, a mansion in Brussels designed by architect Josef Hoffmann in the early 1900s. With a layered geometry motif, the rug echoes the elegance of the building; the handwoven wool rug has a plush rug and generous texture and artisanal craftsmanship that brings warmth underfoot. Available in five standard sizes and three colour, Sage, Navy and Sienna.

The tiled floor of the Dianabad swimming pool in Vienna by architect Otto Prutscher was the source of influence for the Manor rug, which boasts a rhythmic geometry that subtly commands attention while grounding a room. A modern take on the classic checkerboard pattern, the Manor rug from the Beni Rugs collection from DWR features simplified repeat of squares that play with the idea of ripples in water. Available in five standard sizes and two colours, Sage and Goldenrod.

With the Sebastian rug, the composition of stacked squares and rectangles was inspired by custom cabinetry that architects Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser designed for Moser’s own home. The large-scale geometric patten is bold yet disciplined study in line, form and negative space. Available in five standard sizes and two colours, Sage and Sahara Brown.

Each of the three rugs in the Beni Rugs collection from DWR are handwoven using humanely shorn wool.
