When devising the new Frankfurter chair for Blå Station, Stockholm-based industrial designer Johan Ansander was inspired by the familiar form of one’s forearm. This lends the sculptural seat a substantial radii, voluminous profile and charming expression.
The Frankfurter chair also nods to the past by taking influence from the durability of designs from 1930s Functionalism while incorporating contemporary sensibilities.
Made from moulded Swedish beech wood, the Frankfurter chair is solidly constructed to withstand movements and fidgets — and even a little rough handling — without compromising its integrity.
The simple forms of the Frankfurter chair coalesce into a stunning assemblage, with the slightly rounded and enveloping backrest supported by two vertical lengths that slope subtly as they transition into the back legs; the front legs share the same shape as the back legs, balancing the softness with a stately articulation.
Striking a balance between playful and sophisticated, the Frankfurter chair is designed to support the proportions of the sitter with comfort and stability. Suitable for use in contract and commercial spaces, its inviting form also makes it a pleasant addition to residential spaces.
The Frankfurter chair from Blå Station is available in a natural finish as well as a range of lacquered colours.
