Competition: Compact Living

AFAIR 2022 invites participants to create compact living spaces. The design will face the challenge of a limited area of land while considering human comfort and the effectiveness of activities. Participants are expected to speculate how humans themselves would live in the future and how evolving technologies play a role in supporting it.

Participants are required to design a compact living space in an urban context but are free to choose the location, or the design could be siteless if desired. Buildings can be of any program, as long as the design can be occupied for various activities, including living activities. There is a maximum floor plan area of 30m2, but participants are welcomed to integrate the design with the area outside the site.

Submission Requirements

Submissions may be created digitally or manually. The final product must be 1 A2 sheet, portrait orientation in PDF format (300 dpi, max. 25 MB) including:

  • Short narration of the issue you are addressing based on your speculation of the future
  • Building Design Concept
  • Site Plan
  • Floor Plan(s)
  • Section(s)
  • 3D views of the building (axonometric views or rendering perspectives)

Eligibility

The competition is open to undergraduate architecture students all over the world. Participants may register as an individual or as a team consisting of up to 3 people. Participants are welcome to submit projects that were done in school as long as they meet the requirements of the competition.

Prizes

  • 1st Place: 10000 IDR
  • 2nd Place: 4500 IDR
  • 3rd Place: 2000 IDR
  • 4th/5th Place: 350 IDR
  • People’s Choice: 300 IDR

All winners will receive an e-certificate, publication, and a chance to present during the main event.
