The June/July/August 2026 edition of AZURE is dedicated to our 16th annual AZ Awards — and also features the best of Milan, the New Museum’s expansion, the latest in building envelope systems and more!

The AZ Awards issue packs much more than our winners and finalists — though they certainly take pride of place. (And you can read all about them on our dedicated AZ Awards site.)

Drawing of people taking part in the Wari pilgrimage

The Drawing Board is an international architecture platform based in India where students can test their understanding and skills in shaping the way communities live and thrive while preserving local heritage. It was conceptualized by Mindspace Architects and Rohan Builders, to provide architecture students real design challenges in real locations.

The Challenge

The Pandharpur Wari, a 21 day one way sojourn that takes place in the months of June and July (ashada), from Alandi and Dehu to Pandharpur undertaken to meet Lord Vithoba. This is a heritage treasure especially for Maharashtra, encompassing the spiritual, spatial and social elevation of humankind sustained by Wari as an instrument of change since the last 700 years. This march on foot from various locations in Maharashtra to Vithoba temple, Pandharpur, attracts over a million pilgrims.

This year’s design challenge is much more than an architecture contest. Immerse yourself in the study of Wari and discover the higher calling that pilgrims submit to each year.

Submission Requirements

The first stage will be a design presentation limited to 4-A3 size sheets in PDF format only (no Auto-CAD format) with maximum resolution of 5MB only. Submissions should include the following:

  • All floor plans, sections & elevations
  • 3D views/perspectives
  • Any specific details if required.

Eligibility

Any full time or part time student who is currently studying in an academic year of an architecture college or has completed their final exams in June 2020 can participate. Maximum 3 students per group.
