Now in its 12th year, Beazley Designs of the Year is the Design Museum’s annual celebration of the most original and exciting products, concepts and designers in the world today. This international awards program showcases projects from the previous 12 months, across six categories: architecture, digital, fashion, product, graphics and transport. The 87 nominees on display this time around – and up for the jury-selected prize, to be announced in November – include the costumes that Ruth E Carter designed for Black Panther, Formafantasma’s recycled-plastic electronics, Elon Musk’s SpaceX Falcon Heavy and Maurizio Montalti’s Growing a MarsBoot – a speculative design that transforms human sweat into a boot suitable for life on Mars.
