at the Tim Van Laere Gallery in Antwerp, belgium

Tim Van Laere Gallery in Antwerp presents Frames, Muller Van Severen’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. Over the past 15 years, Muller Van Severen developed a diverse body of work that explores the boundaries that exist in objects, between sculpture and function.

This exhibition presents a series of unique objects — each piece, one of a kind — for the first time in a contemporary art gallery; Frames can be perceived as a complete installation, an all-encompassing universe of form, color, light, reflection, and transparency. More than 30 works are brought together in the Tim Van Laere Gallery, where the artist duo seeks to create the most essential sculptural impact through minimal intervention in the space.

In a demonstration of refined use of form and colour, Muller Van Severen aims for their works to be an essential part of our everyday life, inviting everyone to use and inhabit the sculptures — which also serve as a vase, mirror, lamp, room divider, desk or even a bench. In doing so, they build upon the work of Franz West, who emphasized the participatory value of art in his works, which also brought the radical shift that allowed furniture to be perceived as legitimate art.
