Omer Arbel is known for his material-based experimentations – most prominent in the lighting collections he’s created for his Bocci brand. This show, which takes place at Surrey Art Gallery and then will travel to Berlin’s Aedes Gallery, focuses on his recent explorations in fabric-formed concrete. Departing from the artist’s studies for a new residence currently under construction in Surrey, BC, Particles for the Built World features concrete sculptural installation, multi-channel film, construction-form tapestries, architectural models, section collages and interactive cityscape. The exhibition reimagines domestic and urban life outside the rubric of modernism and along a continuum where objects, sculpture and architecture are deeply intertwined.
