We Design Beirut: 2024 is a four-day design experience in Beirut, Lebanon. The multidisciplinary event aims to celebrate and promote design and creativity through a rich program that offers designer showcases, installations, talks and workshops in the fields of interior design, architecture, furniture, product design, functional art, ceramics, home accessories and rugs.

Exhibitions:

  • We Empower – The designated crafts hub and official headquarters of We Design Beirut aimed at supporting, empowering, and sustaining local crafts and the artisans behind them, providing them with exposure, visibility, and a retail outlet, thus spotlighting the importance of protecting the crafts.
  • We Preserve — Villa Mokbel: An icon of Beirut’s golden age, Villa Mokbel is the location that will be used to showcase the present and future of design through a collective of inspiring local, regional, and global talent.
  • We Sustain — Abroyan Factory: The factory will serve as the backdrop to the collective of student design, the future that will shape Lebanese design. It is both the past and the future of Beirut, providing a platform for the upcoming promising talents of the country.

Program:

Day 1

  • Panel Talk titled “Craftsmanship in Design” Moderated by Anna Carnick, Editor-In-Chief of Design Miami. Panelists: George Mohasseb, Karim Chaya, Karen Chekerdjian, Michèle Maria Chaya and Nada Debs.

Day 2

  • Panel Talk titled “Sustainability in Design” Moderated by Lauren Morris, Editor for FRAME Magazine. Panelists: Adib Dada, Guillaume Crédoz, Shaha Raphael.

Day 3

  • Talk titled “The Niemeyer Guest House Renovation – A Tale of Architecture’s Capacity for Repair” Moderated by STIR World Panelists: Charles Kettaneh and Nicolas Fayad, Founders of East Architecture Studio.

Day 4

  • Talk titled “Preservation and Heritage” followed by Tour of Restored Homes by Yasmine Dagher from Beirut Heritage Initiative with Carine Tohme from Li Beirut and Rabih Zeidan from Annabel Karim Kassar.
  • Talk titled “Humanitarian Design” by IED University.
  • Talk titled : Zero Waste is NOT Science Fiction by Ziad Abi Chaker.
