This exhibition explores how the work of Irish playwright Samuel Beckett influenced the design of an experimental theatre that houses Sala Beckett in Barcelona. Designed by Flores & Prats Architects, the cultural space in the former industrial district of Poblenou is dedicated to theatre, experimentation and training.
The result of a careful and attentive conversion of a 1920s workers’ cooperative building, adapted today for a new cultural program, the new home of Sala Beckett, one of the major projects by the Spanish duo, obtained major praise by the international press when it opened in 2016.
An additional confirmation of the relevance of the project came in 2018 when Flores & Prats were invited to take part in the 16th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara. There, they presented a full-scale replica of a fragment of Sala Beckett: a piece that could be inhabited by the public, offering, in Venice, the spatial experience and a documentation of the design process.
